Gender, Distribution, and Balance of Payments Constrained Growth
An unresolved debate in the development literature concerns the impact of gender inequality on economic growth. Previous studies have found that the effect varies, depending on the measure of inequality (wages or capabilities). This paper expands that discussion by considering both the shortand long-run, evaluating the effects of gender equality in two types of economies—semi-industrialized eco...
متن کاملBalance-of-Payments Constrained Growth: the Case of Turkey
In order to test the existence of Thirlwall’s law for Turkey during the period of 19802008, bounds test approach to cointegration is applied. The empirical results suggest that Thirlwall’s law holds for Turkey. This study also suggests some policy recommendations to curb the deficits in the balance-of-payments.
متن کاملBalance of Payment Constrained Growth in Tow Developing and Developed Oil-Exporting Economies (Case Study: Iran and Norway)
In this study, we aim to compare results of the basic and extensive forms of the Thirlwall model (balance of payment constrained growth model) for two economies including Iran and Norway. In this model, demand variables i. e. export and import determine the limit of economic growth in the long run. The balance of payment (deficit) can be a factor as a constraint on the rate of growth of output ...
متن کاملGeneralizing Benford's Law Using Power Laws: Application to Integer Sequences
Many distributions for first digits of integer sequences are not Benford. A simple method to derive parametric analytical extensions of Benford’s law for first digits of numerical data is proposed. Two generalized Benford distributions are considered, namely, the two-sided power Benford TSPB distribution, which has been introduced in Hürlimann 2003 , and the new Pareto Benford PB distribution. ...
متن کاملConstrained Allocation Flux Balance Analysis
New experimental results on bacterial growth inspire a novel top-down approach to study cell metabolism, combining mass balance and proteomic constraints to extend and complement Flux Balance Analysis. We introduce here Constrained Allocation Flux Balance Analysis, CAFBA, in which the biosynthetic costs associated to growth are accounted for in an effective way through a single additional genom...
